Hurricane season is here...How strong is your Emergency Action Plan?

The geographic location of the archipelago of Puerto Rico makes us vulnerable to the scourge of storms and hurricanes. Hugo, Georges, Irma, Maria are recent examples of the destructive force of these atmospheric phenomena. The 2017 marked the collective experience of the country with the passage of hurricanes Irma and María. The damages caused by these cyclones affected the life of the whole country for several months and left our infrastructure damaged. Among the effects that will remain alive in the memory of those who lived this experience we can mention:

  1. Prolonged interruption of electrical service

  2. Prolonged interruption of the potable water service

  3. Considerable damage to communications infrastructure

  4. Damage to transportation routes

  5. Long lines to get fuel

  6. Food shortage

Scientists predict that this type of phenomenon will be more frequent and that the intensities will be more severe. Faced with this reality, the only thing we can do is to plan what our response will be like for preparation, recovery and growth after the onslaught of a severe cyclone. It is very likely that when a threat occurs, the citizens may be overwhelmed by panic and preparations will be complicated. The purpose of the EAP is to prepare the organization for this eventuality by establishing a programmed and progressive execution sequence with much anticipation.

Execution Sequence Map

Our plans establish a sequence of implementation actions according to the location of the phenomenon and its proximity to the local area. The advanced planning insures that the preparation and recovery efforts are synchronized and well orchestrated.

We follow a systemic approach in the preparation of our EAP's. Each critical system is validated and its importance for the business continuity measured. A detailed action plan is developed designating an execution sequence from the beginning of the season until well after landfall.
